SCV Today

By Talks

SCV Today/ October 27, 2019

Peter Fitch gives a “state of the union” talk concerning some of the important issues facing SCV these days: our relationship to our parent denomination and our current financial picture. At SCV, we don’t take regular offerings and Peter explains why in this talk. He also tries to synthesize principles about giving from the New Testament and he shares his own strategy for responsible community building. There is some great interaction from the crowd near the end of this recording.

Higher Intelligence

By Talks

Higher Intelligence/ October 20, 2019

David Moore gives a beautiful talk that focuses on the kind of knowledge that various groups bring to the table. He distinguishes between a knowledge of moral consequence and a knowledge of connection and relationship and thinks we need more of the latter. He finished the talk with a prayer exercise and also a clip by Brandi Carlile. Overall, this was a tremendous service.

Unfortunately, with some computer updates, I was unable to edit this morning’s recording and have posted the entire service, including the coffee break! David’s talk begins at the 58 minute mark. Good luck! Hope to have this figured out by next week!

Becoming and Unbecoming

By Talks

October Second Breakfast / October 13, 2019

On the second Sunday of each month, we gather for breakfast and discussion in smallish groups around tables. This week, Jessica Williams and Janell de Graaff, led the time. They focused their reflections on “Becoming” and “Unbecoming” in regard to beliefs in God and connections to faith-communities. We don’t have a recording but you can hit this link to read their words and this link to see their powerpoint. At the end, they shared an expanded blessing from the Beatitudes that was written by Nadia Bolz-Weber. Here is a link to that. Overall, it was a very rich morning!

** No recording this week, table discussions.

Finding My Voice

Finding My Voice/ October 06, 2019

Eden Jersak shares at SCV about finding her voice. Jesus didn’t do or say anything except what he heard and saw Father doing. As a result we find some surprising texts that point to God using people to pass on messages to Jesus. Who might God be speaking to you through? And are you willing to listen?
