In today’s homily, Jess reflects on the importance of communal readings of Scripture and critically thinking about the challenges that arise within it. She draws our attention to some of the more troubling passages in this week’s lectionary readings, and then offers a reframe that considers the context the passages were written in, inviting us to see Christ as a door who welcomes in those the church has cast out, and a Good Shepherd who places himself between the vulnerable and those who would “steal, kill and destroy” thereby threatening their access to abundant life.
