Mark Groleau gives a fantastic talk about the genealogy of Jesus that is found in Matthew, ch. 1. He suggests that this is actually a subversive message that contrasts God’s hope for humans with the self-aggrandizing efforts of the Roman emperors (and the rest of us!). It’s worth it to check the images on the power point presentation while you listen. We all have a way of building altars that try to demonstrate a perfect life to everyone round about. When we let that go, we can really begin to live.
